Honoring a Legend. Naming a Champion.

“You gotta place what they bring, and you hope they’re good ones and it was really good,” said Dave Duello, Wyoming, judge of the 2019 NAILE Junior Market Steer Show. Duello has judged several major shows over his career, but still feels impacted by the prestige of this livestock show.

The crowd anticipates the selection of the 2019 NAILE Grand Champion Junior Market Steer.

Olivia Caldwell, Illinois, exhibiting what would soon be named the 2019 NAILE Grand Champion Junior Market Steer.

Beginning this year a trophy replicating the grand champion steer will be presented to the champion exhibitor, named the Rick Frye Memorial Trophy.

“That’s a very admirable thing,” Duello said. [Rick Frye] is a good man gone.”

Mason Meier, Texas, removes his hat for a moment of silence honoring the late Rick Frye while exhibiting in the grand drive.

Duello selects Caldwell’s steer as the Grand Champion Junior Market Steer at the 2019 NAILE.

“I’m speechless, there’s really no words to describe what I’m feeling right now,” Caldwell said.

Zane Potter, Texas, was selected as the Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Steer at the 2019 NAILE.

Those sharing the backdrop photo with Caldwell are more than just show day help, she said.

“All those who have supported me and helped me to get where I am today, I honestly couldn’t thank them enough,” she said. “First and foremost my family, and the list goes on and on.”
