Juniors Leading Juniors

The butterfly effect – a phenomenon where a small change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere. In the livestock world the “butterflies” are the eldest, experienced juniors, who have pulled around 1,000 lb. heifers for the past 10 years.

Every year during the month of November, juniors from across the country gather to exhibit livestock at the North American Junior Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky.

The purpose of this event is to encourage youth development and interest in the agricultural industry. At the completion of the Junior Heifer Breed Show, the Supreme Junior Breed Heifer is chosen from the respective breed champions.

Despite the Junior Heifer Breed Heifer Show intense competition, it’s about younger kids finding mentors to look up to. You will also find mentors ring side reminiscing of their once younger selves. This is again the butterfly effect.
